Screen NJAmend - New Jersey Amended Return (1040)

Overview

Use this screen to enter information needed to produce amended returns. For residents and part-year residents a Form NJ-1040X will be calculated. Nonresidents will see the word "Amended" at the top of Page 1 of the NJ-1040-NR return.
note
Nonresident return won't see the amended balance due/refund due amount on the return. The filing instruction will have the amount due/refund amount based on the difference between the original amounts and the amended amounts.

General Information

Information entered in this section is used with data calculated on Form NJ-1040 to complete Form NJ-1040X or the additional amount due/additional refund due when amending and Form NJ-1040-NR. Information in this section applies to amendments for all residencies.
Transfer original information
Mark this field to transfer data from the original or last filed return prior to entering any changes. Taxpayers who file New Jersey Resident Income TAx Return form NJ-1040 will complete a New Jersey Amended Resident Income Tax Return Form NJ-1040X. Taxpayers who file a New Jersey Nonresident Income Tax Return Form NJ-1040NR will complete a second NJ-1040NR. More data is required for the NJ-1040X so different data transfers when this checkbox is marked.
Data will transfers as follows:
  • General information transfers to the NJAmend screen from both NJ-1040 and NJ-1040NR
  • Original estimates calculated transfers to the NJAmend screen from both NJ-1040 and NJ-1040NR
  • Filing status, exemptions and address information transfers to the NJAmend screen from the NJ-1040
  • Income and deduction transfers to the NJAmend2 screen from the NJ-1040
  • Tax, credits, penalties, withholding, and other payments transfer to the NJAmend3 screen

For all New Jersey returns the paid with original return or refund previously used from original return.
Amend overpayment credited to

Enter the amount of amended return refund that the taxpayer would like to apply to next year's estimated tax.
Taxpayer/Spouse gubernatorial elections
Mark the checkbox for the taxpayer and/or spouse who didn't elect to contribute to the gubernatorial elections fund when the original return was filed but who now want to contribute.
Explanation of Changes
Enter an explanation for each of the changes made to the return being amended in the statement dialog. Include in this statement details about changes in filing status, exemptions, dependents, and name changes/address change when amending a NJ-1040-NR return. These items appear on the form for a NJ-1040X. The amendment for a NJ-1040-NR doesn't use the NJ-1040-X form.

Form NJ-1040-ES-V Estimates Recalculated

Use this screen to prevent the recalculation of estimates when filing an amended return.
Do not recalculate estimated tax payments
UltraTax CS won't recalculate estimates based on any changes to the return when this checkbox is marked. The vouchers and the estimated tax filing instructions won't print. UltraTax CS will proforma the estimated tax amounts from the NJAmend2 screen,

Resident Return Filing Status, Exemptions, and Deductions

Use this section to enter the original names on the return, addresses, filing status, exemption, and dependent information from a NJ-1040 return. This section isn't available for nonresidents amending a return. Nonresidents should include details of changes of this information in the explanation of changes statement window.
