File a joint return when the taxpayer is deceased

When you enter a date of death on the federal 1040 screen for the taxpayer, UltraTax CS creates a return for the taxpayer indicated as deceased, and a separate single return for the spouse.
To file a joint return, replace the deceased taxpayer information with the spouse information on the federal 1040 screen. Make sure to change the
TSJ
code to match the taxpayer name and Social Security number (SSN) with the correct information and income.
For example, if the taxpayer died during the year and the
TSJ
field was blank or had a
T
code, you'd need to change the
TSJ
field to
S
to source those wages to the surviving spouse, not the deceased taxpayer.
