Return Information

County of residence as of 12/31 / County code
The
County of residence as of 12/31
field is used to determine the correct
County code
and limit the choices for the
School district name and code
field. The school district name and code information show up on the form while the county code only shows up in the electronic file. This information is used by the State of Pennsylvania for school district funding. Full year residents should enter the county of residence they lived in on 12/31.
For part year residents who reside in Pennsylvania on 12/31, enter the county lived in as of 12/31. For part year and nonresident returns, UltraTax CS enters in Part Year Resident with county code of 00 and school district of 99999 on the form.
School district name and code
The school districts are listed by county in the fieldview. The school district name and 5-digit code prints on the return.
Pennsylvania Filing status (Force)
Use this field to combine or split the PA-40 return. If the return is automatically split because of certain credits or taxpayer or spouse is a dependent of another, by choosing
1
in this field, the PA-40 return combines into 1 return with a filing status of Married Filing Joint. Likewise, if the federal filing status is Joint and the PA-40 return isn't split, then by choosing
2
in this field, the PA-40 return splits into 2 returns with each having a filing status of Married, Filing Separately. If UltraTax CS splits the Pennsylvania return, check the diagnostic screen for the reason why. When a joint return is being filed and the taxpayer is deceased and the spouse is alive, UltraTax CS will automatically split the PA-40 return and this field will be non-enterable.
Occupation: (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically transfers in the occupation description that is entered in the federal 1040 screen. Enter a description to override the transferred in description.
Final return
If filing a final return, marking these fields updates the filing status checkbox on Form PA-40, Page 1. Use the
Spouse
field only if UltraTax CS calculates separate returns.

This statement may be printed and attached to the return for informational purposes. The general footnote isn't included in the electronic file.
