Overview

Use this screen to complete Schedule SP. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 doesn't require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-PA shows it on the form only, not in the screen.

General Information

Separation code
Use this field to indicate the marital status. The data entry affects the Schedule SP as to whether the taxpayer is treated as married or unmarried. The options in this view don't affect the filing status of the PA-40. To force a Pennsylvania return into separate returns or force a joint filing status, use the PAGen screen. The available codes are listed in the following table and the fieldview.

Use this field to indicate the taxpayer and spouse are submitting the same information on separate Form PA-40 Schedule SPs.
Dependent information
Information in the statement window attached to this field transfers automatically from the

statement window in the federal 1040 screen. If the individual doesn't qualify as a dependent for tax forgiveness, enter

State use code
field in the federal statement window. The information on that line doesn't transfer to this field. UltraTax CS allows dependent children to be used in the calculation of Schedule SP for married filing separate returns. All qualified dependents listed on the federal return show up on both the taxpayer and spouse Schedule SPs. UltraTax CS uses this information to complete Form PA-40 Schedule SP, Part B, line 1.

Eligibility Income

UltraTax CS uses the information in this section to complete Schedule SP, Income section, Part C. The amounts entered in this section don't affect the taxable income reported on Form PA-40.
Pennsylvania taxable income (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically calculates the taxable income based on the Form PA-40 tax return. Use the force fields to enter the taxable income if different than the calculated amount.
Nontaxable interest, dividends, and gains (Force) / annualized income
UltraTax CS automatically calculates the nontaxable interest, dividend and gains amount based on data entered in the federal B&D screen for resident returns. An In-State Muni percent or amount must be entered with a PA postal code when there's an amount in the Tax Exempt column. For nonresident returns, the nontaxable gain shows up on the nonresident income of Schedule SP. Use the force field to enter the nontaxable interest, dividends and gains amount if it's different than the calculated amount.
For deceased taxpayers, include the annualized income in this field. The amount entered should include the nontaxable interest, dividends, gains and annualized income.
Alimony (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically transfers alimony based on data entered in the federal Income screen. Use these fields to force a different amount, if desired.
Insurance proceeds and inheritances (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically transfers retirement death benefit distributions based on data entered in the PA1099 screen. The gross distribution amount with the distribution code of

and a state use code of

or blank is included on Schedule SP. Use these fields to force a different amount, if desired.
Gifts, awards, and prizes
UltraTax CS automatically transfers the information in the statement windows attached to these fields from the

statement window in the federal Income screen and from the federal W2G screen. Those items coming from the federal Income screen appears in these statement windows for part-year and nonresident returns if they have federal code

UltraTax CS automatically calculates nontaxable military income for part-year and non-residents to be the difference between the total state military wages and the military wages coded with postal code

Gains excluded on the sale of a personal residence (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically transfers gains excluded on the sale of a personal residence based on data entered in the federal Home screen. Use these fields to force a different amount, if desired.
