Screen RIGen - Rhode Island General Information (1040)

Overview

Use this screen to complete Forms RI-1040 and RI-1040NR. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 does not require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-RI shows it on the form only, not in the input screen.
Federal-to-state input screen and asset module data transfer
If information is transferred from federal input screens or from the asset module to a state input screen, the application displays the transferred data in blue, for example: Field showing transferred data.
If necessary, you can overrule the transferred amount by entering the appropriate amount in the field. The application then displays the new amount in black.

Return Information

Enter city or town of your legal residence. If you are a nonresident of Rhode Island, enter Out of State.
This field changes the option indicated in federal 1040 Screen. A global default is available for new clients for both federal and state returns. To select this option, choose Setup, 1040 Individual, and then Federal tab, select the New Client Options button, and from the drop-down list select Yes for the
Authorize discussion with taxing authority
checkbox.
If desired, enter a footnote in this statement dialog. This is a statement that may be printed and attached to the return for informational purposes. The general footnote appears as a separate item in each collation.

Use Tax

Use this section to calculate Schedule U, Individual Consumer's Use Tax by either entering total purchases, indicate use tax is based on federal adjusted gross income, or enter specific purchases.

Contributions

Marking this field indicates a $5 ($10 for married filing joint) contribution to the electoral system. This contribution does not lower a refund or increase tax due.
An entry in this field marks the checkbox and enters the party name to indicate that $2 ($4 for married filing jointly) of the electoral system contribution is distributed to the political party indicated. This contribution does not lower a refund or increase tax due.

Health Care Shared Responsibility

Unless everyone had qualifying health coverage or an exemption for the entire year, then every individual in the health care shared responsibility family, including the taxpayer, spouse or domestic partner, and any dependents who were claimed or could be claimed on the tax return must be listed.

  • Leave both columns blank only when there is no qualifying health care or exemption coverage for the listed individual.
