Show all hidden content

Overview

Use this screen to complete/change direct deposit and electronic funds withdrawal for electronic filing. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 doesn’t need more data or coding, UltraTax/1040-WV shows it on the form only, not in the input screen.
Once an electronic return is transmitted, a direct deposit or electronic funds withdrawal request can't be added, changed, or canceled. The routing transit number and account number should be verified yearly.
note
Penalty for Failure to Comply with EFT Payment Requirements: To clarify previous notices sent to taxpayers: A 3 percent civil penalty will be applied to any payment received on or after March 1, 2015, that is not made by EFT when EFT payment is needed and a waiver hasn’t been obtained.

Direct deposit and electronic funds withdrawal

Use this section to direct deposit a refund or electronic funds withdrawal a balance due from an electronically filed return.
Suppress direct deposit of refund
UltraTax CS automatically chooses direct deposit for the West Virginia return refund when financial institution information has been entered in the federal
Info
screen. Enter

if you don’t want to deposit the state refund directly in the client's account. Direct deposit may not exceed the threshold set by the West Virginia Department of Revenue.
Use Refund Advantage / EPS Financial for refund deposit
Use this field to have the state refund deposited with Refund Advantage / EPS Financial. This field is available only if the federal refund is being deposited with Refund Advantage.
Enable electronic funds withdrawal for a balance due return
Use this field to indicate that the taxpayer wants to have the tax due deducted automatically from the designated bank account. UltraTax CS uses the federal bank information as a default unless bank information is listed in this input screen. The date the funds are withdrawn from the account is the due date of the return. Electronic funds withdrawal confirmation prints with the return. Electronic funds withdrawal may be processed for returns when you enter

,
Checking
, in the
Type of account
field.
Date of withdrawal
Use this field to give a date for approved automatic withdrawal of funds for payment of balance due returns different than the original due date. Electronic funds withdrawal will take place on the date of the acceptance for returns filed after the original April due date. Electronic funds withdrawal can't be delayed by entry in this field of a date past the due date.
  • When filing after the original due date, the taxing authority will initiate a withdrawal when the return has completed processing. Don’t enter a future date or the return won’t generate. Leave this field blank.
  • When filed on or before the original return due date, the taxing authority can't initiate a funds transfer before the requested withdrawal date. The actual transfer of funds may happen on or after the requested date. Delays of several days are not uncommon.

Account information

Routing transit number /... / Type of account
1040-WV automatically uses the financial institution information entered in the federal
Info
screen for direct deposit or electronic funds withdrawal. To select a different account for the West Virginia refund transaction, enter the financial institution information here. The
Routing transit number
,
Depositor account number

Direct deposit and electronic funds withdrawal are not available when Form WV-8379 is active. Form WV-8379 subjects the return to special processing.
Non-US financial institution (International ACH transaction)
There are laws affecting international electronic funds transfers processed through the automated clearing house (ACH) network. A domestic ACH transaction is a direct deposit to or withdrawal from an account in a U.S. financial institution. An international ACH transaction (IAT) is a direct deposit to an account in a U.S. bank that automatically forwards the refund to an account in a foreign financial institution, or a withdrawal from a U.S. bank account that gets the funds for that transaction from a foreign account. The account owner will know when an international transfer account has been established for them. Enter
X
if the account identified is used for an IAT. Because state agencies can't process an IAT, UltraTax CS suppresses the direct deposit or electronic funds withdrawal when this field is marked. This suppression is noted in the diagnostic messages and the account information is omitted from forms, client documents, and electronic returns. State agencies are tallying how many international transactions they’ll need to support in future years so the return will indicate that an IAT was requested.
