E-file Form 1120

Electronic filing mandate

There is no mandate for electronic filing of business returns in Alaska.

Returns supported for electronic filing

You can file the following return types electronically:
  • C Corporation
  • S Corporation
  • Consolidated/Combined
  • Short year
  • Amended

Returns not supported for electronic filing

You can't file the following return types electronically:
  • Extensions
  • Estimated tax payments
  • Returns without a valid accompanying federal return

Signature requirements for electronic filing

Alaska doesn't have a specific signature form for corporate returns. Instead, Alaska considers the signature date you enter on the AKELF screen and the act of completing and filing an authorized signature electronically.

Resubmit returns

If you need to make a change to an accepted e-file return, amend the return and file it electronically or on paper.
If Alaska rejects the return, you may make the changes, correct the rejection, and resubmit. If you can retransmit the return electronically, you need to file and have Alaska accept it by the return due date, or 10 calendar days after you initially received the rejected acknowledgment, whichever is later.
If you can't retransmit the rejected return electronically, you need to file a paper return by the return due date, or 10 calendar days after you received the rejected acknowledgment, whichever is later. Include an explanation of why you're filing the return late and a copy of the rejection.

Attachments

Alaska needs a valid federal attachment in the electronic file. Therefore, if the federal return isn't supported for electronic filing by the IRS, you can't e-file the state return.
The state of Alaska lets you attach PDF documents to the electronic file. Alaska doesn't have specific naming conventions, so you can use any file name when you manually attach a PDF. The following forms automatically generate as a PDF and attach to the electronic file:
  • AK Form 665
  • AK Charitable Contribution Deduction Limitation Worksheet
  • AK Dividends Received Deduction (DRD) Worksheet
  • AK General Business Credit Carryover Worksheet
  • AK Underpayment of Estimated Tax Worksheet
  • Federal Form 7004
  • Required statements
  • General footnote
  • Elections

Payment methods

Alaska takes electronic fund withdrawal (direct debit), electronic funds transfer (EFT), or check or money order for balance due returns. You can make extension payments via check or money order.
