Screen RICPmt - Rhode Island Composite Payments and Extension (1120)

Payments

Use this section to enter the prior year overpayment, estimated tax payments, credits, extension, and other payments. The application uses this information to complete Form RI-1040C, and to calculate Form RI-2210C.
Enter the amount of any prior year overpayment. The application transfers the amount to Form RI-1040C and automatically treats it as a first-quarter payment to calculate Form RI-2210C. Don't include this amount again in
1st payment
.
Enter the total of all composite estimate payments made for the tax year in
Total, or
. The application transfers this amount to Form RI-1040C and applies it equally to all quarters to calculate Form RI-2210C. To override the way the application applies the total to all quarters, enter actual amounts of composite estimated tax for
1st payment
through
5th payment
. Once amounts are entered in any of the individual payment boxes, the application ignores the amount in
Total, or
to calculate Form RI-1040C and Form RI-2210C.
The first four boxes in the
Date Paid
column default to the respective quarters’ due dates and the fifth payment date defaults to the fourth-quarter date. If the payments weren't made on the estimate due dates, enter the actual payment dates in the boxes provided.
The application proformas the estimated payments calculated in the prior year to the
Calculated Amount
boxes. Enter
X
to transfer the amounts from the
Calculated Amount
boxes to the
Amount Paid
boxes.
Each time you print the extension (via File, then Print Extensions), the application:
  • calculates the extension payment amount and enters it in this box, and
  • prints this amount on Form RI-1040C, not on Form RI-4868C.
Alternatively, you can overrule the calculated amount by entering the amount actually paid with the current-year extension in this box. The application then shows the new amount in black.

Extension

Use this section complete Form RI-4868C and to extend the due date of the return. To print Form RI-4868C, select File, then Print Extensions.
If you need a blank extension form, select Help, Tax Subject Index, then Web Form Instructions to link to Form RI-4868C from the Rhode Island Department of Revenue website. The extension form produced by the application isn't approved for handwritten use.
Enter
1
or leave this box blank to have the application calculate the extension at 100 percent of the current year liability. Enter
2
to have the application calculate the extension at 80 percent of the current year liability. When this option is selected, interest is assessed on the remaining 20 percent of the balance due.
If you've printed an extension by selecting File, then Print Extensions, or have entered an amount in either
Balance due on extension (Force)
or
Tentative RI income tax (Force)
, the extended due date automatically appears in this box. Otherwise, enter the date to be used as the extended due date when calculating late filing penalties and in the filing instructions. If this box is blank, the application assumes that the composite return wasn't put on extension.
Enter an amount in this box, including 0 (zero), if you want to override (force) the calculated amount on Form RI-4868C, line A. The application calculates the balance due on extension based on the amount entered in this box, less any payments.
Enter an amount to have the application calculate the amount of total tax using the composite estimated payments entered, to complete
Extended due date
, and to place the amount entered in the Payments section.
