Report year for fiscal year-end returns

The Texas franchise tax is based upon the results of operations ending in the year preceding the report year. The report year equals the year filed.
Texas franchise tax privilege periods, other than initial reports and final reports, have a January 1 to December 31 calendar year, even if the federal return is for a fiscal year.
For the yearly report period, the accounting year-end date is the end date for federal income tax purposes in the year before the yearly report is originally due. Texas yearly reports for a fiscal year federal return will be due initially on May 15 of the calendar year following the federal return year-end date.
File a 2018 Texas yearly report for any fiscal year federal return ending in 2017. Franchise tax returns can't have an accounting year end past January 4 of the report year you're filing.
