P-227 or P-227SF e-file error

The Plan Administrator's USERID and PIN must be present and valid.
You indicated the plan administrator would be signing the return, but a User ID and PIN for the plan administrator was never entered.

Solution

To resolve this error, follow the steps below.
  1. Check the plan administrator information:
    • If the plan admin and the employer/sponsor are the same person, check your data entry using the Entering data for the same employer / sponsor and plan administrator form.
    • If the plan admin and employer/sponsor are different people, go to the next step.
  2. Check the signature:
    1. Go to the Electronic Filing input folder.
    2. Open the ELF screen.
    3. Check the
      Email address to receive web signature email
      field. If you have an email address entered, make sure the
      Plan administrator
      box above that is marked and that no other fields on this screen are filled out.
  3. Sign in to EFAST. The signer needs to log in to the EFAST website and follow the instructions below.
    1. Go to efast.dol.gov/welcome.html.
    2. Select Login on the left.
    3. Enter the User ID and password. The User ID is the same as the ID used for signing. The password is not the same as the PIN used for signing the return. If you (the signer) forgot your password or never created one, select Forgot Password and follow the prompts to reset it. Resetting the password will not change the PIN.
    4. Once you're logged in, go to the User Profile and mark the Filing Signer box under the User Type.
  4. Recreate and retransmit the return.
