Install UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan via Terminal Server

The Bar Code Scan Utility has been discontinued starting with UltraTax CS 2023.
Use UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan to scan bar codes on W-2s and Schedules K-1 (for 1120S, 1065, and 1041 entities) that your clients submit for the preparation of their tax returns. Once the documents are scanned, you can add the data into your UltraTax CS client data files via data sharing.
If you're running the Terminal Server version of UltraTax CS, follow these steps to install UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan. Your bar code scanner needs a serial connection (standard RS-232) or USB connection to your computer and to be able to decode 2-dimensional (2D) bar codes in PDF-417 format to work with this tool.

Bar code scanners might not be configured to decode PDF-417 bar codes by default. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for configuring the bar code scanner.
Run UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan for a bar code scanner with a USB connection
Bar code scanners with USB connections work directly with UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan when you run the Terminal Server version of UltraTax CS.
In UltraTax CS, select
Utilities
, then UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan
to run the bar code scan tool.Use UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan with a bar code scanner with a serial connection
If your bar code scanner is connected to your computer via a serial connection, you'll need to install the tool locally before you can run it, and specify the location of the tool before you can retrieve scanned data.
- Select the following option for your version of UltraTax CS to install UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan.
- SelectOpenwhen you're prompted to save or open the file.
Run UltraTax CS Bar Code Scan
Once the installation is complete, you can run the tool by selecting
Start
on the Windows taskbar, then All Programs
, CS Professional Suite
, then UltraTax CS YYYY Bar Code Scan
