Delete a client

Complete the following steps and review the notes to delete all of the current-year data files for one or more clients.

After you delete client files, UltraTax CS can't recover them. Therefore, we recommend that you back up the client's data before you delete it.
  1. From the
    File
    menu, select
    Delete
    to open the
    Delete Clients
    window.
  2. In the
    Clients available to delete
    pane, highlight the client(s) whose data you want to delete and select the
    Select
    button. The clients you select will move to the
    Clients to delete
    pane. To remove a client from the deletion list, highlight the client and select
    Remove
    .
  3. If you have Fixed Assets CS and the two applications share client depreciation data, UltraTax CS defaults to deleting the client from Fixed Assets CS as well. To delete the client from UltraTax CS but not from Fixed Assets CS, clear the
    Delete Fixed Assets CS
    client data checkbox.
  4. Select
    Delete
    . UltraTax CS prompts you to confirm that you want all data deleted for the selected clients.
  5. Select
    OK
    .

  • The open client is automatically selected for deletion. If you don't want to delete the open client, select their name in the
    Clients to delete
    pane then select
    Remove
    .
  • If you try to delete a client whose data is password-protected, UltraTax CS prompts you to either enter the password or to skip deleting the protected client's data.
  • You can elect
    Client ID
    ,
    Name
    , or
    Entity
    in the title bar of the list pane to sort the client list by that characteristic.
  • Use the
    Focus
    group box at the bottom of the window to limit the number of clients who appear in the client list by entity type, preparer/reviewer/staff, or status event.
  • After client data is deleted, there won't be an audit trail available to determine who deleted the client or when. To restrict access to the
    Delete clients
    window, select
    Setup
    ,
    Security
    , then mark the
    Restrict access to File > Delete
    checkbox.
