Add MICR numbers to check and deposit slips
A magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line is a row of special characters at the bottom of a check or deposit slip. These characters are printed with magnetic ink so that machines can read them easily. The bank that issued the check controls what information is in the MICR line.
In the
Bank Accounts
screen, you can enter MICR information if you're printing your own checks and deposit slips. This helps make sure the checks and slips have the correct information.- SelectSetup, thenBank Accounts.
- In theBank Accountsscreen, select a bank account from theBank Accountslist and then select theLayoutstab.
- In theMICR and/or Deposit Slip MICRsection, choose the MICR format to use:
- Standard: Select this option to use the MICR line created by the application based on the information entered in theMaintab of theBank Accountsscreen. The application uses the bank's routing number for the Transit number and the account number for the On-US number.noteIf you choose the Standard format, you can also specify the following MICR options:
- Digits to allow for auxiliary on-us: This is the number of digits to display for the check number in the auxiliary On-US section. The default number is 10.
- Starting position for the On-US section: This is generally specified by the financial institution written on the check. The default is 31.
- Print beginning On-US character: If the beginning On-US character should be printed, mark this checkbox. This is specified by the financial institution.
- Custom: To create your own MICR line, choose this option and then select the ellipsis
to open the Custom MICR Linewindow. Enter characters as necessary to create a custom MICR line.
- The letterTrepresents the Transit symbol.
- The letterOrepresents the On Us symbol.
- The letterDrepresents the Dash symbol.
- The pound sign#represents the reference numbers for checks. When the application prints the checks, it replaces the pound signs with the appropriate reference numbers.
- SelectEnterto save the MICR information.
