or a third-party PDF editorYou can use the PDF Editor or other PDF applications, such as Adobe Acrobat.
To use your own application:
- Go toSetup,Firm Information, thenFirm.
- Select thePreferencestab.
- Mark theOpen PDF workpapers in native PDF applicationcheckbox.
note
- PDFs won't return to the binder after you close them in a third-party PDF editor.
- TheOpen PDF workpapers in native PDF applicationcheckbox isn't available if you access the application through Virtual Office or as Software as a Service.
View the toolbars
- PressF11if you no toolbars are visible.
- PressF9if some toolbars are visible, but not the command menu bar containing File and Edit.
- PressF8if the command menu bar is visible but there are no other toolbars.
Toolbar font settings
Use the following steps to change the typewriter font settings.
- SelectTypewriteron theComment and Markuptoolbar.
- Select a place within the PDF workpaper where you want to begin entering text.
- Change the font settings in thePropertiestoolbar.
- If you want to use these settings every time, selectMake Defaulton thePropertiesToolbar.
Alternatives to the Text Highlighter tool
Text Highlighter
toolThe
Text highlighter
tool only highlights text that exists on the original document. If there's handwritten information on the original PDF or if you use the Typewriter
tool to insert text, you can't use the Text Highlighter
for these.The following are alternative methods of highlighting this type of text are:
- SelectDocument, thenOCR Pagesor select theOCRicon
on the toolbar.
noteThis identifies text entered on the document. It doesn't send your documents to the Thomson Reuters data center for Source Document Processing. - Use theRectangle Toolto insert a box, then change the border, fill, and opacity settings on thePropertiestoolbar to give it a yellow, partially transparent fill.
Use Workpapers CS calculator as a calculator tape tool
The PDF editor doesn't have a calculator tape tool. You can use the Workpapers CS calculator through the
Engagement Binder Tree
portlet on the Workpapers Dashboard, or from the Workpapers CS toolbar in Microsoft Word or Excel. After performing a calculation, right-click the Calculator
toolbar and select Copy tape to clipboard
. You can then paste the tape onto your PDF document.Use the PDF Editor to annotate and modify workpapers

to annotate and modify workpapersThe first time you use the PDF Editor it will open in a restored state.
You won't be able to change a workpaper if you're viewing it on the
Workpaper Preview portlet
, not within the PDF Editor. Select Maximize
to make the PDF Editor full-screen. You can now use the tools to annotate and modify your workpaper.Sometimes the PDF Editor opens outside the visible area of your monitors.
- HoldShiftand right-click theAccounting CSorWorkpapers CSicon. You may need to select from multiple icons to open the correct window.
- SelectMove.
- Use arrow keys to move the window until it appears.
These steps may not work for your version of Microsoft Windows. If so, visit the Microsoft Windows Help website to get instructions.
Include PDF annotations when printing a binder
- In the Engagement Binder Tree portlet on the Workpapers Dashboard, select the binder.
- Right-click the binder, then selectPrint.
- In thePrintwindow, selectOptions.
- Mark theInclude PDF annotationscheckbox.
- SelectOKto close theOptionswindow.
Organize windows in the PDF Editor
PDF Editor
- SelectView, thenCustomize User interface.
- Right-click the binder, then selectPrint.
- Go to the General category and clear theTabbed Documentscheckbox in the Documents Layout section.

You can select

, Tile Horizontally
, and Tile Vertically
from the Windows
menu.
