Process corrected 94X-X forms
Follow these steps to process corrected 94X-X forms.

- There's no corrected Form 940. You can submit an amended 940 form: Open the reconciliation form, mark theAmendedcheckbox in the Type of Return section, then enter corrections on the form. Review the instructions for Form 940 on the IRS website to determine how to file the amended paper return.
- A corrected form will be available in theEdit Payroll Tax Formsscreen only if the form that it corrects is available to file.
- The application processes only corrected federal forms, not state forms.
- SelectActions, thenEdit Payroll Tax Forms.
- Select the client from theClientdropdown.
- SelectCorrectedin theForm typedropdown, and the specific form in theFormdropdown.Depending on the form type selected, you may also need to select the year, or the quarter and year.
- SelectRefreshto display the form.
- Enter the necessary information on the form.
- It's important to enter a date in theEnter the date you discovered errorsfield. If the form is set up to apply overpayments to the next return, the discovery date affects when overpayments are applied. For example, if you use Form 941-X to correct the 1st quarter Form 941, the discovery date should be before the end of the 2nd quarter so that the overpayment applies to the 2nd quarter.
- Accounting CS will retrieve both the original and corrected columns of the form. You'll need to modify whichever column needs adjustment.
- SelectFilethenProcess Client Forms.
- SelectPaper Filefor the Filing Method, or e-file the return.note
- You have the ability to electronically file the Form 941-X starting with 1st quarter of 2024 and Forms 943-X, 945-X, and an amended 940 starting with tax year 2023. Any tax periods prior to these periods will still need to be filed using the Paper filing method. Form 944-X can't be filed electronically and must also be filed using the Paper filing method.
- Select the form to print, then selectProcess Selected.
