Troubleshoot CS Connect update failure
Follow these steps to troubleshoot if CS Connect fails to apply updates in Accounting CS, Workpapers CS, or Practice CS. Following these steps won't affect your data.
important
- Close Accounting CS, Workpapers CS, and Practice CS before completing the steps.
- Download the latest version of Accounting CS, Workpapers CS, or Practice CS if it's not already saved on the database server.
Work with the main installation
- Go toX:\WinCSI\Accounting CSorX:\WinCSI\Practice CS(replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
- Right-click theCCUPDLOGfile and selectOpenorOpen with, thenNotepad.
- In Notepad, check the file for a recently dated entry that includesError Applying Old File.
- If you find an entry that includesError Applying Old File, follow these steps. This will uninstall the Accounting CS shared files and the Accounting CS application, or the Practice CS shared files and Practice CS from the server.
- On your computer, selectStart,Control Panel,Programs, thenUninstall or change a program.
- Right-clickAccounting CSorPractice CS, thenUninstall. Repeat for the Accounting CS shared files or Practice CS shared files.
- Reinstall Accounting CS or Practice CS using the latest version you downloaded previously.
- After installation, apply the CS Connect updates.noteWhen you open Accounting CS after reinstalling, you'll get a message that the databaseFIRMcan't be opened because it was already opened in a newer version. SelectOK. You'll then be prompted to check for updates.
- If you don't find an entry that includesError Applying Old File, follow these steps.
- Go toX:\WinCSI\Accounting CS\updates or X:\WinCSI\Practice CS\updates(replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
- Delete everything in the updates folder.
- Open Accounting CS or Practice CS, then download and apply the CS Connect updates again.noteWhen you open Accounting CS after reinstalling, you'll get a message that the databaseFIRMcan't be opened because it was already opened in a newer version. SelectOK. You'll then be prompted to check for updates.
Manually apply updates
- Make sure that all users have Accounting CS or Practice CS closed.
- On your computer, selectStartthen search forCommand Prompt.
- Go toX:\WinCSI\Accounting CSorX:\WinCSI\Practice CS(replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
- Select and drag theCSIUPD.EXEfile into theCommand Promptwindow.
- UseSpace, enterupdate, thenEnter. The CS Connect updates window will display and apply updates.
Reinstall the application
If the previous steps didn't work, follow these steps to uninstall the Accounting CS shared files or Practice CS shared files and the Accounting CS or Practice CS application from the server.
- SelectStart,Control Panel,Programs, thenUninstall or change a program.
- Right-clickAccounting CSorPractice CS, thenUninstall. Repeat for the Accounting CS shared files or Practice CS shared files.
- Go toX:\WinCSI(replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
- Rename theAccounting CSandAccounting CS Datafolders toAccountingCS.OLDandAccounting CS Data.OLD. Rename thePractice CSandPractice CS Datafolders toPractice CS.OLDandPractice CS Data.OLD.
- Reinstall Accounting CS or Practice CS using the latest version you downloaded previously.
- After installation, apply the CS Connect updates.noteWhen you open Accounting CS after reinstalling, you'll get a message that the databaseFIRMcan't be opened because it was already opened in a newer version. SelectOK. You'll then be prompted to check for updates.
You don't need to reinstall the application on every computer after the updates successfully apply on the server. Accounting CS or Practice CS will automatically apply the updates when opened.
Specific computers not applying updates
If a specific computer isn't applying updates or is showing an error message, follow these steps to reinstall Accounting CS or Practice CS.
- On the computer that isn't applying updates, selectStart,Control Panel,Programs, thenUninstall or change a program.
- Right-clickAccounting CSorPractice CS, thenUninstall.
- Go toX:\WinCSI\Accounting CS\DESKTOPorX:\WinCSI\Practice CS\DESKTOP(replace X with the drive the application is installed on).
- Run theSetup.exefile.
