You can use this step-by-step guide to customize
Accounting CS
for your firm's needs.These steps are the minimum steps required to getting started. As you explore your application and the Help and Support page, you'll find additional setup steps that you can complete to use optional features.
Do the following in order to install and set up

Accounting CS
- If you'll use the application to electronically file payroll tax forms, submit your EFIN application summary.
- Sign intoAccounting CSfor the 1st time with your Thomson Reuters Account then enter the following information:
- Open Firm:FIRM
- Staff ID:ADMIN
- Password:(leave blank)noteIf you previously opened this database and assigned a password, you'll need to enter that password.
For users of Accounting CS or Workpapers CS:
Since firm-level security is required and automatically enabled for Workpapers CS, you'll be prompted to change the password when opening Accounting CS for the first time.Set your firm information
- Enable firm security for your Accounting CS database. We recommend this so you and your staff sign in using your own unique credentials. You'll need to enable firm security in order to use Workpapers.noteYou'll need to close and re-open Accounting CS after you complete this step.
- Enter your basic firm information, including identification numbers, address and contact information, and additional contacts for your firm.
- Select your firm-level preferences, including your security preferences, data entry confirmation settings, and event tracking.

While you're working in most areas of
Accounting CS
, you can press F1 on your keyboard to open a help topic that's relevant to your current screen.Add staff and assign permissions
- Set up security groups. We recommend that you create groups with permissions based on the roles or functions of each staff member.
- Create staff accounts. The ID you choose will be the staff ID that your staff will use to accessAccounting CS. We recommend that you use something familiar, so it's easy to identify staff throughout the application.
- Assign staff to security groups to grant or deny access to various screens and features inAccounting CS.
Add clients
The following steps walk through basic client setup. You may need to set up client information in additional areas of the application.

- This guide doesn't cover the additional setup steps required to use the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable services.
- You can use templates for faster client setup. Templates are optional, and are commonly used for clients with a lot of similarities, such as entity or industry type. This also helps your firm set standards and maintain consistency between client records.
- Select 1 of the following methods to add clients toAccounting CS:
- Manual entry.
- Client templates (requires that the templates are set up first).
- Import basic client information from UltraTax CS (requires that your clients already exist in UltraTax CS).
- Transfer setup information from an existing client record, usingTransfer Client information.
tipYou can use processing notes to create a note or reminder when you're working on a specific client. - Enter basic client information, including identification numbers, address and contact information, and staff processor and reviewer assignments.
- Set up the chart of accounts. You can set up a client's chart of accounts to be as simple or as complex as necessary. Each account number can be between 3 and 60 characters in length, and use up to 20 segments.tipIf you use the same or similar chart of accounts for all of your clients, such as restaurant franchises or doctors with separate accounts under the same EIN, create a template with the chart of accounts before adding your clients.
