Troubleshoot data sharing

Scenario

You may have the following problems when using data sharing.
  • Prompts to accept, decline, or postpone changes don't appear.
  • Certain amounts or fields are not sharing or updating.

Solution

Try any of the following steps to help you solve these problems.
  • Verify SSNs and EINs for each client involved.
  • In UltraTax CS, print preview each client's return.
    note
    The print preview process creates the files necessary for data sharing.
  • To share W-2 or 1099 forms with UltraTax CS:
    • Select
      Actions
      , then
      Process Payroll Tax Forms
      .
    • Process employee copies of W-2s or Copy B of 1099s to make the form data available in UltraTax CS.
  • For each client affected, select
    File
    ,
    Client Properties
    , then
    Advanced Properties
    . Verify that the
    Exempt this client from all Data Sharing functionality
     and the
    Deny others Data Sharing access to this client
     checkboxes are cleared.
  • Select
    Help
    ,
    Repair
    , the client, then
    Rebuild Data Sharing
     for the client. After rebuilding data sharing, print preview each client's return.
    note
    Make sure that you select
    Rebuild Data Sharing
     from the group of buttons for the client, not from under All Clients. This can take some time. We recommend that you perform data sharing after business hours.
  • Select
    Setup
    ,
    Office Configuration
    , the
    Data Sharing
     tab, and verify that the
    Allow use of the data sharing feature
     checkbox is marked. If data sharing was turned off, wait until after business hours and select
    Help
    ,
    Repair
    , then
    Rebuild Data Sharing
     from under All clients.
    note
    To mark the checkbox, go to
    Setup
    ,
    System Configuration
    , then
    Data Sharing
    .
  • Select
    Setup
    ,
    User Preferences
    , and verify that the
    Display the Data Sharing dialog when a client is opened
     option is marked on the
    Misc
     tab.
  • Clear the local Windows temp directory.
  • Register program files. Select
    Start
    ,
    Run
    , then enter the following command depending on the applications you are data sharing.
    • Practice CS: 
      regsvr32 X:\Program Files (X86)\Creative Solutions\Practice CS\20YY.2\Practice CS\wcis_p.dll
      note
      Where
      YY
       represents the year of Practice CS.
    • UltraTax CS: 
      

regsvr32 X:\WINCSI\UTYY\wcis.dll

regsvr32 X:\WINCSI\UTYY\wcis_k.dll

regsvr32 X:\WINCSI\UTYY\wcis_s.dll
      note
      Where
      YY
       represents the year of UltraTax CS.
  • Change the income entered to recreate the K-1 data sharing files then print preview the return. Change the income back to the correct amount, then print preview again.
