Enter foreign addresses on payroll tax forms
Use the following procedures to include a foreign address on the employee copy of Forms W-2 and 1099.
- For W-2 forms: add the foreign address to the employee record.
- For 1099 forms: edit the form layout in the layout editor, and then add the foreign address to the vendor record.noteThere are 2 different options for editing the 1099 form layout. 1 option uses a single variable for the address, the other option uses 2 variables.
W-2 forms: add the address to the employee record
- SelectSetup, thenEmployees.
- Select theMaintab.
- SelectOtheras the address type from the dropdown list.
- Use theAddress 1andAddress 2fields only to enter the foreign street address, province, country code and country, and postal code.importantDon't enter anything in theLookupfield or other address fields. Foreign addresses can't be verified using the Address Verification feature.
- Mark theMailing addresscheckbox.noteAccounting CS sends the employee copies of payroll tax forms to the address that is specified as the mailing address.

1099 forms: edit the layout (using a variable that combines recipient's Address Lines 1 and 2)
These steps are appropriate for: 1098-E, 1098-T, 1099-A, 1099-C, 1099-G, 1099-PATR, 1099-S, 1099-SA, 5498, 5498-SA, and W-2G

- The following steps demonstrate an example of edits to Form 1099-C Copy A.
- Before you edit the 1099 form layout, remember that this is a global change that will affect 1099s for all clients.
- If you add a variable or change something in the layout, be sure that you change each copy of the layout.
- To undo 1099 form edits and return to the original (default) form, open the form in Layout Designer and selectFile, thenRestore Default.
- SelectFile, thenLayout Designer.
- Select+next to the1099 Formsfolder to expand it, then expand the folder for the specific year.
- Double-click the1099Calayout to open it.
- Select the variable[TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine1andAddressLine2]in the Street address (including apt. no.) box and press theDeletekey to remove it.
- Select the variable[TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressCityStateandZip]in theCity or town, state or province, country, and ZIP or foreign postal codebox and pressDeleteto remove it.
- In theVariablessection of theDesign Toolspane, expandTax Form, then1099 Recipient, and double-click theAddress Line 1variable.
- Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the variable[TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine1]from the top-left corner of the layout to theStreet address (including apt. no.)box.
- WithTax formthen1099 Recipientstill expanded in theVariablessection of theDesign Toolspane, double-click theAddress Line 2variable.
- Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the variable[TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine2]from the top-left corner of the layout to theCity or town, state or province, country, and ZIP or foreign postal codebox.
- SelectFile, thenSave.
1099 forms: edit the layout (using separate variables for recipient's Address Lines 1 and 2)
These steps are appropriate for: 1098, 1098-C, 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-OID, and 1099-R

- Select[TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine1]and use arrow keys to move it to the and[TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine2]variables from theStreet address (including apt. no.)box to the theCity or town, state or province, country, and ZIP or foreign postal codebox.
- Select the following variables in theStreet address (including apt. no.)box and use arrow keys to move them to theCity or town, state or province, country, and ZIP or foreign postal codebox:
- [TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine2].
- [TaxForm.1099Recipient.AddressLine2].

1099 forms: add the foreign address to the vendor record
- SelectSetup, thenVendors.
- Select theMaintab.
- SelectOtheras the address type from the dropdown list.
- Use only the first two address lines to enter the foreign street address, province, country code and country, and postal code.importantDon't select theAddress Verificationbutton and don't enter anything in the other address fields. Foreign addresses cannot be verified using the Address Verification feature.
- Mark theMailing addresscheckbox.noteAccounting CS sends the employee copies of payroll tax forms to the address that is specified as the mailing address.
