Troubleshoot errors when creating an internet file
Try the following solutions if you receive an error message when you try to create an internet file.
Enter an ID

Enter a Transmitter contact name, phone, and email.
Select
Actions
, then
Process Internet/Magnetic Files
.
Select
Transmitter Information
.
Select a staff member from the
File Contact
dropdown in the General section.

If you have an Alternate Preparer Block license, select
Setup
,
Firm Information
, then
Firm
. Complete the Alternate Firm and Alternate EIN/SSN fields on the Main tab.
If there are no entries in the dropdown, follow these steps to add a staff member to the list:
Close the window and select
Setup
,
Firm Information
, then
Staff
.
Select a staff member who's also a payroll form preparer, then
Edit
.
Mark the
Payroll form preparer
checkbox in the Preparer Information section. Enter the
PTIN
and
Third party designee PIN
(if applicable).
Enter a phone number in the
Business
field, and an email address in the
Email
field of the Phone and Fax Numbers section. Add any other missing information.
Make the same changes for any other staff members that should be included in the list of payroll form preparers.
Select
Enter
to save your changes.
Enter the Transmitter EIN.
Select
Setup
,
Firm Information
, then
Firm
.
Select
Edit
.
Enter the EIN in the
EIN/SSN
field or the
Alternate EIN/SSN
field depending on the license used.

Even without an Alternate Preparer Block license, firms still need to enter the transmitter EIN for certain internet files to pull the EIN without the alternate preparer block.
