Chart of accounts mask and segments examples
The Chart of Accounts mask is the key to defining all accounts for a client. The mask needs to be set up before you can add accounts or enter transactions.
Access account mask
- SelectSetupthenClients.
- Select theAccount masktab.
General rules
Before you can add accounts to a client's Chart of Accounts, you'll need to set up the mask by using the following rules:
- The account mask needs to be between 3 and 60 characters.
- The default mask for new clients isXXXXXXXXXX(10 Xs).
- Only the following characters may be used in the mask:Available charactersSymbolCharacterAAlpha characters only#Numeric characters onlyXAny character, separator, or space
- The account mask can have up to 20 segments and each segment can have an unlimited number of codes.
- All characters in a segment must be the same. (For example, AAA or ####.)
- For segments consisting of X or # characters, if you don't enter all of the characters in the segment, the application fills in the rest of that segment with zeroes.
- You'll need to enter all characters in the segment for those consisting of A characters.
- You can only use the predefined separators in the dropdown for the mask.
- An account number cannot end with a separator.
