Add an external workpaper
For licensed users of Accounting CS Workpapers
You can add documents that already exist on your workstation into Accounting CS Workpapers. Do the following to add an existing file into the engagement binder.
- In the Engagement Binders Tree portlet, right-click an engagement binder briefcase then selectAdd Workpaper.
- In the Workpaper Type screen, selectExternalfrom theSourcedropdown.
- SelectBrowseand go to the external location, then select the folder where the document is located.noteThe folder contents displays as empty.
- Choose theSelect Folderbutton.
- In theWorkpaper Typescreen, mark the checkbox in theSelectcolumn for the workpapers that you want to add, then selectNext.noteYou can mark theDelete source file(s)checkbox to remove the external file from the source location after it has been added to the engagement binder.
- For each workpaper, add a uniqueReferencein theWorkpaper Propertiesscreen of the wizard.
- SelectFinishto insert the workpapers into the engagement binder.

- You can also add an external document via the drag-and-drop method from Windows Explorer. In the Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS) environments, you'll need to open Windows Explorer via Microsoft Word or Excel to use the drag-and-drop method.
- You can select theAdd Workpaperoption to add external documents to the engagement binder. Workpapers are added to the top level of the engagement binder by default.
- You can use the drag-and-drop method to move workpapers to another folder or location in the binder and reorder workpapers, as necessary.
- You can add password-protected documents to the engagement binder.
- Each time you open a password-protected document in the Preview portlet, the application prompts you to enter the password for that document.
- You can't send password-protected PDFs via Source Document Processing.
- You can't add encrypted documents to the engagement binder.
- There's no limit to the number of workpapers that you can add to the engagement binder. You can add any of the following types of files:
- Microsoft Excel: XLS, XLSX, XLSM
- Microsoft Word: DOC, DOCX, DOCM, MHT
- Microsoft Access: MDB, ACCDB
- Microsoft Outlook: MSG
- Microsoft PowerPoint: PPT, PPTX, PPTM
- Microsoft Visio: VSD
- Workpapers CS reports
- Adobe Reader file: PDF
- Text workpapers: TXT
- HTML workpapers: HTM, HTML
- XML workpapers: XPS, XML
- Graphics: BMP, EMF, GIF, JPG, PNG, WMF
- Generic workpapers
- PPC SMART Practice Aids
