Error: Timeline.exe has generated errors...

Scenario

You may get the following error message when:
  • publishing to a PDF
  • opening the product after re-installing it
Error message
Timeline.exe has generated errors and will be closed. You will need to restart the program. The log file "C:\User\user\AppData\Local\Temp\WCTL_LOG03.txt" has been created.

Cause

There's an incompatibility issue between the novaPDF components installed with Case Notebook version 4.5 / 4.6 and Case Timeline 3.0.
The log file created in your temp folder will include these messages:
Unhandled Exception
Code: 0xC0000005
Description: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Exception Address: 0xE5ADE82F
Read attempted @ 0x00000000
MODULE: C:\Program Files\Softland\novaPDF 8\SDK\Lib\x64\novasv8.dll
VER: 8.5, date and time
BASE: 0xE5AD0000
ADDRESS: 0xE5ADE82F

Solution

Complete these steps:
  1. Download this novaPDF8COM(x64).msi file to your computer getting the error.
  2. Open a command prompt.
    tip
    Search Google if you need to know more about opening a command prompt.
  3. Enter
    msiexec /i "C:\<path to the file>\novaPDF8COM(x64).msi"
     and select
    Run
    .
Case Timeline and the publish to PDF option will now run successfully.

One-time workaround

On the computer getting the error:
  1. Close your products.
  2. Open Explorer and go to
    %appdata%\Softland
    .
  3. Rename
     the novaPDF 8 folder.
Case Timeline will now work. Use these steps each time you use the publish to PDF option.
