Analysis of Participant Contributions

This workbook may be used to help identify discrepancies in the timeliness of remitting participant contributions to a plan.  It is based on the Form 5500 and Instructions for Form 5500 for 2010 plan years.  Users involved with plans for years prior to or subsequent to 2010 should ensure compliance with the requirements of the Form 5500 for those particular years.  The Form 5500 and Instructions for Form 5500 are available on the DOL's
In the Description column, enter an appropriate description for the contributions received or withheld (such as a check number or pay period date).
In the Date Contributions Withheld or Received column, enter the date funds were received by the employer from participants or beneficiaries for contribution to the plan or the date amounts were withheld from the wages of plan participants for contribution to the plan.
In the Date Contributions Remitted to Plan, enter the date that funds either received by the employer from participants or beneficiaries for contribution to the plan or withheld from the wages of plan participants for contribution to the plan were actually transmitted to the plan.
This workbook automatically calculates the number of business days between the date the funds were received or withheld for contribution actual to the plan and the date the related funds were transmitted to the plan.  The analysis excludes weekend days but does not consider the effect of holidays that may occur between the two dates.  Thus, users should take care to consider the effect of holidays on this analysis.  As a reminder, the DOL regulations define a business day as any day other than Saturday, Sunday, or any day designated as a federal holiday. The automatic calculation of business days will only work if the Analysis ToolPak is installed and enabled in Excel. If the Analysis ToolPak is not enabled, users may do so by using the menu path
The Amount of Remittance column may be used to accumulate the total amount of delinquent contributions.  Users may choose to list the total remittance for each item listed on this schedule or only those that are deemed to be delinquent.  Documentation of whether the remittance is deemed to be delinquent is made in the adjacent column. Users should review the timeliness of remitting to the plan based on the information entered in this worksheet.  With respect to each remittance, the user should assess whether it is within the guidelines established by DOL regulations.
In the Considered Delinquent under DOL Regulations column, enter Yes or No for each listed remittance by clicking on the appropriate cell and selecting Yes or No from the drop down list. Remittances with Yes in this column will be included in the total amount of delinquent participant contributions summarized above the table.
Users should not enter information in the cell next to the caption “Total Amount of Delinquent Participant Contributions”.  The worksheet will calculate this figure based on the information in the table.
This workbook includes three optional worksheets that may be used to prepare the supplemental schedule of delinquent participant contributions.  The three optional worksheets are only visible if one or more remittance included on the Analysis worksheet is identified as being considered delinquent under DOL regulations in column H of the worksheet. Users should select only one of the three format presentations when reporting delinquent participant contributions as a supplemental schedule.
