Error: Macros must be enabled

Resolve this error by enabling PPC add-ins in Word or Excel and adjusting registry settings if needed.

Scenario

You may get the following error message when accessing an Excel file in Checkpoint Tools.
Error message
Macros must be enabled.

Solution

  1. Close any open Word/Excel documents and open a blank Word/Excel document.
  2. Select
    File
    Options
    Add-Ins
    .
  3. Select
    Disabled Items
     from the
    Manage
     dropdown, then select
    Go
    .
  4. If any PPC add-in is listed, select it, enable it, and select
    OK
    .
  5. If no PPC-related items are listed, select
    Close
     and proceed to the next step.
  6. Select
    COM Add-ins
     from the
    Manage
     dropdown, then select
    Go
    .
    1. Make sure the PPC add-ins are checked so they’ll appear.
    2. You'll find up to 5 PPC add-ins. The critical ones are
      PPCWord12
       and
      PPCWord12Repurpose
       for Word, or
      PPCExcel12
       and
      PPCExcel12Repurpose
       for Excel.
  7. If the add-ins don't remain marked, verify the
    Load Behaviors
     in the Windows Registry.
    1. For Word, go to the following registry locations:
      • Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
      • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
      • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
    2. For Excel, go to the following registry locations:
      • Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins
      • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins
      • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins
  8. Locate the main 2 add-ins listed within these registry folders. If they aren't present in 1 location, check the next location.
  9. Select the add-in and verify that the
    Load Behavior
     is set to 3.
  10. If the
    Load Behavior
     isn't set to 3, double-click on
    LoadBehavior
     and change the value to 3.
