How CoCounsel works
We call CoCounsel an AI legal assistant because it:
- Focuses on your information,
- Does what you ask, and
- Shows its work.
Work with CoCounsel (classic version)
To work with the classic version of CoCounsel, you'll do 2 things:
- Identify a source of information, and
- Request assistance by giving instructions.
CoCounsel uses this information to understand your intent and identify which of its capabilities to use. We call these capabilities “skills” and “workflows” and group them into 4 categories.
- Researchskills answer a single question across a large dataset.
- Reviewskills read files word-for-word to find user-specified content.
- Summarizeskills read files word-for-word to provide fixed answers.
- Draftskills use a description to create user-specified content.
Each skill or workflow uses a different combination of instructions and sources of information to complete the task.
Work with CoCounsel Legal
The next generation of CoCounsel Legal is different. It plans, researches, analyzes, and drafts from a single plain-language request, grounded in Westlaw and Practical Law at every step.
Simply describe what you need in plain language. CoCounsel will build a plan, run each step, and return a complete, cited result, without you needing to select specific skills or manually link each step together.
At any point during a task, you can stop, redirect, or refine what CoCounsel is doing.
