Search across your firm's content sources and Outlook inbox from a single, unified interface. Quickly find documents and emails, apply filters, and use AI-generated insights to work more efficiently.
You can use the
Knowledge Search
tool to connect to various content sources for a unified search experience. Once connected, you can search across all your sources and find the information you need quickly. You can add more content sources as needed.
You can use the Knowledge Search tool to do the following:
Research across different content sources including their firm's DMS and Thomson Reuters content.
Refine their search results by filtering and highlighting key terms.
Get a detailed view of the results, which includes AI insights like summaries and keywords.
Open documents directly in Word with CoCounsel for Microsoft Word.
Upload documents in CoCounsel Chat to apply AI skills and ask questions.

As a first-time user, an intro screen will prompt you to connect your content sources. Select
Connect content sources
to get started.
You'll find all your available content sources previously configured by your administrator. Connect all the content sources you want to have available to perform your searches. Some content sources will show a separate window to request your credentials.
Select
Back to home
once you have connected to at least 1 content source.
Once redirected to the homepage, specify up to 5 content sources for your search.
Perform searches using natural language queries, keywords, or Boolean operators. Use the search tool tips as guidance.

Natural language examples:
I need to find a distribution agreement precedent from the food and beverage industry.
Term loan credit agreement with Huntington National Bank as documentation from 2023.
Biotech manufacturing agreement with Delaware governing.
Your recent searches will be stored for 48 hours to help you pick up where you left off.
Once you've selected your content sources and your query is ready, select
Enter
or select
Search
.
You will be redirected to the results page, where your search results appear as a tabbed list. Move across the tabs to review the results for each content source.
After performing a search, update the content sources you use to get different results by selecting
Edit content sources
.
Select the content sources you want to include, and then select
Save
.
Add additional filters to refine your results. Filters change depending on the content sources.
For content within your DMS, open a detailed version of the results. AI generates additional insights on your documents.
You can select key terms in your results.
For some content sources, select the document title to preview the document. If a preview is not available, the document will open in your browser.
For SharePoint and OneDrive, open the Word results directly into the Word Desktop application with the Drafting tool open so you can begin working.
For DMS content, select multiple documents and create a
CoCounsel Chat
to interact with the available AI skills. If documents are not supported, you will be notified.
Remove the failed files to continue with the process by selecting the
x
within the action column.
Once you select
Create new chat
, the upload progress indicator will display on the screen.
Minimize this screen and continue to Knowledge Search. You can also cancel the chat creation at any time.
Select
Go to chat
and you will be redirected to your new CoCounsel Chat.
Outlook connector
important
The Outlook connector is being rolled out gradually and is not yet available to all customers. If you don't have access, no action is required. It will become available to you soon.
The
Knowledge Search
Outlook Connector lets you search across your own Outlook emails and attachments directly within
Knowledge Search
.
With the Outlook Connector, you can:
Search across Outlook emails and attachments in your own inbox.
Refine search results by filtering and highlighting key terms.
View detailed results that include AI-generated insights such as summaries and keywords.
Preview and open emails and documents.
Upload emails and documents to CoCounsel Chat to apply AI skills and ask questions.
Follow these steps to turn on the Outlook connector and begin searching.
Go to
Knowledge Search
Edit Sources
Manage Sources
.
If you're using the Outlook connector for the 1st time, search for
Outlook
in the connector list and select
Connect
.
Return to the Knowledge Search homepage after connecting the Outlook connector.
Add Outlook as a content source by selecting
Edit sources
, marking the
Outlook connector
checkbox, and selecting
Save
.
Perform searches using natural language queries, keywords, or Boolean operators. Refer to the search tooltips for guidance.

You'll be redirected to the results page, where your search results appear as a tabbed list. Select the

tab to view Outlook-related results.
Apply additional filters to refine your results. For the Outlook connector, the following filters are available:
Date sent
Email read/unread status
Contain/doesn't contain email attachments
Sent by (sender)
To preview an email or document, select its title. If a preview is not available, the email or document will open in your browser.
Select multiple emails and attachments and select
Create new chat
to begin a CoCounsel Chat and apply the available AI skills.
note
Unsupported documents don't appear in the search results.
Emails appear as full email threads, as they would in Outlook.
Select
Go to chat
to be redirected to your new CoCounsel Chat.
Emails are stored in CoCounsel only if you intentionally send them to a chat or a database. Only the email thread in its current state at the time of upload is sent. It won’t update automatically if new emails are added to the thread later.
