Advisory setup: Playbook library
Learn how to manage the playbook library and create custom advisory playbooks for your firm.
The playbook library contains all advisory playbooks available for your firm.
- Foundation playbooks:Thomson Reuters creates and maintains Foundation playbooks. Your firm can't modify them.
- Custom playbooks:Your firm creates Custom playbooks for use within your firm.
All staff can access the library to view details about each playbook, including its intended client base and included strategies. Only firm administrators can turn playbooks on or off for the firm and add custom playbooks.

Use the
Library on/off for firm
toggle to make playbooks active or inactive for the firm.When the playbook library is turned off, no playbooks are recommended when staff create new client projects. This doesn't affect playbooks that have already been applied to existing projects.
Add a custom playbook (Admin only)
Start with a template or build your playbook manually.
Start with a template
You can start with a foundation playbook template. Some options are preselected when you use a template.
- SelectAdd Playbook.
- On theChoose templatescreen, choose a foundation playbook to customize, and then selectContinue.
- In theSelect a return type for the playbooksection, modify the return type if needed, and then selectContinue.
- In theSelect a situationsection, modify the tax situation if needed, and then selectContinue.
- In theAdd client match criteriasection, refine the target client base by specifying conditions for client tax attributes. Select the+button for a client tax attribute, specify the conditions and values. Then, selectAdd condition.
noteThe client tax attributes available in this section vary based on the return type and tax situation that you selected. - After adding all client match criteria, selectContinue.
- On theName your playbookscreen, enter a unique name and a description that clearly identifies the playbook's purpose and target client base. Then, selectContinue.noteBy default, the playbook is assigned the template name followed by ‘custom.’
- On theSelect strategiesscreen, strategies may be pre-added based on the template. Remove strategies that you don't want to include and add strategies from the Available strategies list. Then, selectContinue.
- On theReview playbook detailsscreen, verify that the playbook details are correct.
- To make changes, selectBackto return to previous steps. If the details are correct, selectCreate playbook. The new playbook is displayed in the Custom playbooks section of the Playbook library.
Build manually
No options are preselected when you build a playbook manually.
- SelectAdd Playbook.
- On theChoose templatescreen, selectSkip.
- In theSelect a return type for the playbooksection, choose the return type.
- In theSelect a situationsection, select atax situation.
- In theAdd client match criteriasection, refine the target client base by specifying conditions for client tax attributes. Select the+button for a client tax attribute, specify the conditions and values, and then selectAdd condition.
noteThe tax attributes available in this section vary based on the return type and tax situation that you selected. - After adding all client match criteria, selectContinue.
- On theName your playbookscreen, enter a unique name and a description that clearly identifies the playbook's purpose and target client base. Then, selectContinue.
