Induced repeating spans
Another approach, rather than explicitly asking the questionnaire user how many repetitions there are (e.g. with the
CompanyCount
question used in repeat span), is to set the Presentation
property of this variable to be Calculated From Repeat
(see Editing variables). This has the effect that the number question is no longer asked. Instead, the questionnaire user is able to create new repetitions and enter their details as many times as is required.For example, if
DirectorCount
is given this presentation style, the questionnaire page for entering details about all the company directors will have additional buttons to add new directors and to delete existing directors:
These are referred to as "induced repeat spans" because the number of repetitions is induced from the repeated values.
