We’re excited to introduce a new AI-powered feature that helps you complete questionnaires quickly and confidently. This feature allows you to upload a source document, such as a term sheet or other supporting material, and automatically generates suggested answers based on its contents. It streamlines the process by identifying key information and mapping it to the corresponding questions, giving you a strong head start while keeping you in full control to review, edit, or replace suggestions as needed.

It utilises the efficiency of AI while allowing you to stay in full control, with the ability to review, edit or replace suggestions as needed.
Enabling AI Questionnaire Population
Before using the AI Questionnaire Population feature, ensure that
Advanced AI Features
are enabled in your environment. This setting is required for the extraction functionality to work.
To enable AI Questionnaire Population:
Create a Profile
with the
“Show Extract Answers”
setting turned on.
Apply this Profile
to the templates where you want the feature to be available - whether for testing or live use.
Since templates can have multiple profiles applied, this two-step setup gives you more precise control over where the feature is active. It helps prevent accidental activation across unintended templates.
Alternatively, if you prefer to enable AI Questionnaire Population across all templates at once, you can update the
default Profile
under the
Features
section in the
Admin
tab.
AI Questionnaire Population is available only to users within the Contract Express or HighQ Document Automation instance. Guest users, those external to these instances, will not have access to AI features, even if the
button is enabled in the template.
How to use the AI Questionnaire Population
Open the questionnaire you want to work on, then click the “
Extract Answers
” button at the top.
You’ll be prompted to upload a source document such as a term sheet or similar supporting document. Supported file types include .docx, .doc, .txt, .eml, .msg, .pdf, and .xlsx. These formats cover common document and email file types used for sourcing information. For best results, we recommend using structured documents.
Once uploaded, the AI will scan the file and map answers to the relevant question in the template. These suggestions are displayed directly in the answer fields, marked with an “AI Extracted” label so they’re easy to identify.
Once the AI extraction process is complete, the questionnaire fields will be populated with suggested answers. A notification banner will appear at the top of the page, prompting the user to verify the accuracy and completeness of the populated responses.
Each AI-generated answer is marked with an “
AI Extracted
” label to ensure transparency. Users can interact with these answers in the following ways:
Edit
: Overwrite the text directly in the field.
Replace
: Select a different option if the field is a dropdown or radio button.
Remove
: Clear the field entirely if the suggestion is not applicable.
If the AI is unable to extract an answer due to missing or unclear information in the source document, the corresponding field will remain blank. Users can manually enter the appropriate response in such cases.
Once you’ve reviewed the answers on a page, you’ll be prompted to confirm whether you’d like to apply the AI answers.
Selecting
Yes
will apply the answers to the questionnaire and remove the AI labels.
Selecting
No
will leave the answers in place but keep the AI Extracted label visible.
You can also save your progress at any time and continue to review answers later if needed.
If you’re using standalone Contract Express, the Document Overview page provides a complete history of the AI extraction process, including all extracted answers, the source document used, and an audit trail of both applied and non-applied suggestions.
