About Flags and Links

Check citation status and add Westlaw links for legal authorities, with optional short-form coverage; some Word Online platforms require manual footnote citation updates.
The
Flags & Links
tool lets you view the status of cited cases, statutes, court rules, regulations, and administrative decisions in your document. Flags and links are applied to all standard long and short form citations, but you have the option to include Ids, Supras, Ibids, or to include case titles only in short form. Use the
Flags & Links
tool to link to full-text documents on Westlaw.
The following
Flags & Links
capabilities vary between Drafting Assistant platforms:
  • Drafting Assistant for Word Online won’t insert linked images into your document at this time. Linked text labeled “KeyCite” is inserted instead of a hyperlinked flag/symbol.
  • When Word Online is used with some online storage platforms, citations in footnotes must be modified manually by the user. For ease of modification, citations located in footnotes will be grouped at the end of the extracted citation list. To modify a citation within a footnote, first open the footnote then select the relevant citation text to be modified.
