Turn Off Hidden Text

TOA hidden tags keep citations linked and page numbers accurate, and you can hide them in Word by turning off the Hidden text display option.
When building a Table of Authorities, hidden tags/fields are used to mark the location of each citation in the document and to group citation instances together. As document text is removed or added, the tags remain attached to the cite so the page numbers in the table are accurate when the document is updated. Deleting the tags from the document entirely will result in a table that can no longer be updated or refreshed using Word functionality.
If you are seeing the tags displayed after inserting the TOA into your document or when opening a document with an existing TOA, you can hide the tags using Word's display options. Use the following steps for the version of Word you have installed.
