Error: Excel waiting for another application

Scenario

Microsoft Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action.

Cause

Solution 1: Check if Add-Ins cause the error in Engagement Manager

In Engagement Manager, open an Excel document in view mode.
Open
Windows Task Manager.
Select the
Applications
tab and check that the Excel spreadsheet is running.
Edit another
Excel
document in
Engagement Manager
.

You will still get the error message at this stage.
Take the following steps to disable a third-party
Excel
Add-In:
In
Excel
, select
File
then
Options
Select
COM Add-Ins
from the
Manage
dropdown list
Clear the checkbox next to one of the Add-Ins, then select
OK
Repeat steps 1 to 3 to check if the error still occurs. If it does, disable another third-party Add-In until you find the one that causes the error.

Solution 2: Check if Add-Ins cause the error outside Engagement Manager

Open
Windows Explorer

Right-click a local
Excel
file and select
Open with
, then a supported internet browser from the context menu.
Close the
Excel
document.
Open
Windows Task Manager
.
Select the
Processes
tab and check if
Excel.exe
is open.
Take the following steps to disable a third-party Excel Add-In:

Options
Select
COM Add-Ins
from the
Manage
dropdown list
Clear the checkbox next to one of the add-ins, then select
OK
Repeat steps 1 to 5 to check if the error still occurs. If it does, disable another third-party Add-In until you find the one that causes the error.
