Updated the Competitive Conversion Utility to version 26.1 to ensure compatibility with the latest Engagement Manager features and improve reliability when converting engagements from CaseWare and ProSystem fx.
  • Consolidations and Divisions
    • Engagement Manager provides two options for managing consolidated entity engagements. The first, Consolidations, provides the most flexibility as each entity has its own engagement binder and trial balance. Consolidations is most effective when you have multi-level consolidated entities and/or you want to manage engagement reporting and documentation in subsidiary binders. The second is to use a single engagement binder and treat each subsidiary as a Division. That option may be preferable in less complex, single-tier consolidations.
    • Over the next few months, we are making significant improvements to both approaches to increase efficiency. Consolidations will be enhanced to streamline navigation between binders and to allow you to interact with each subsidiary binder (e.g., set up engagements, import trial balances, rollforward, post adjustment, etc.) without leaving the parent company binder. Divisions will also be enhanced to provide better reporting, improved trial balance import/export, and journal entry capabilities.
    • Improvements included in this release include the following:
      • Consolidations
        • Ability to make journal entries and view journal entries from a child/subsidiary engagement directly on the parent engagement. Create and review journal entries for subsidiary engagements without leaving the parent engagement workspace. This streamlines your consolidation workflow and reduces the need to navigate between multiple engagement files.
        • Ability to insert reports from child engagement into the workpapers tab of a parent engagement. Insert reports from child engagements directly into your parent engagement's workpapers tab, keeping all related documentation organized in one central location. This makes it easier for reviewers to access the complete consolidation picture without switching between files.
        • Ability to do a spreadsheet import of multiple child engagements, when each child engagement is contained in separate columns, directly from the parent engagement. Import trial balances for multiple child engagements in a single operation when each entity's data is organized in separate columns. The consolidation-aware import automatically maps columns to the correct child engagement, significantly reducing data entry time for multi-entity clients.
      • Divisions:
        • Ability to choose a division on a journal entry and the account filter will only contain accounts from that division. When creating journal entries, select a division to automatically filter the account picker to show only accounts belonging to that division. This reduces clutter, minimizes selection errors, and helps you work faster when managing engagements with multiple divisions or departments.
  • General enhancements
    • Zip export:
When exporting large engagements with long file paths, the export now automatically handles Windows path length limitations by trimming long folder and file names.
    • Improved file preview:
Fixed an issue where preview and view functions displayed blank screens for files larger than 95 MB.
  • Trial balance
    • Added a visible loading indicator when exporting large numbers of accounts (48K+ accounts).
    • Corrected an issue where defined tick marks did not display correctly.
    • Fixed a problem where filtered column values were not displayed in exported files.
  • Workpaper reference safety:
Updated alert messages that warn users when attempting to replace existing workpaper references.
  • Roll Forward error handling:
Improved error detection to reduce cases where Roll Forward appeared stuck “in progress,” providing clearer error information when issues occur.
  • Web add-in
    • Fixed an issue where data in user-defined columns was not saving when column headers were all numerical or when renaming column headers.
    • Resolved problems with account grouping reports missing underlines between accounts and subtotals.
    • Fixed Excel workpaper recalculation failures caused by memory limitations and corrupted references, ensuring reliable add-in performance on large and complex workpapers.
    • Fixed formatting issues to ensure proper display of workpaper elements.

Coming soon

  • We will be removing support for the legacy COM Add-in version of the Microsoft Office Add-in for Engagement Manager at the end of June.
The new Web Add-in offers significant advantages: no registry entries or local files required, no separate 32-bit and 64-bit installers, and automatic updates that eliminate the need to reinstall on each computer. New Divisional and Consolidation features, along with the enhanced notes interface and journal entry shortcuts, will only be available in the Web Add-in. Please uninstall the legacy COM Add-in from Windows Control Panel before installing the new Web Add-in.
  • Make sure to install the newest GoFileRoom Add-in 26.1.1 before the May 27 Engagement Manager release.
We are introducing a new feature that makes the workpaper reference and description visible in the title bar of word and excel. It will only work with this new GoFileRoom Add-in. Without the 26.1.1 version of the GoFileRoom Add-in, you may see issues opening documents from multiple engagements at the same time among other side effects.
  • We are continuing to expand consolidation capabilities beyond this release.
Planned enhancements include: the ability to insert formulas into Excel and Word documents that reference child engagement data; a new setup screen for managing multi-level engagement hierarchies with streamlined child engagement creation; a navigation dropdown to move quickly between engagements in the hierarchy; one-click consolidation, roll forward, and finalization for the entire hierarchy instead of processing each parent individually.
  • We are expanding divisional capabilities to support complete division-level workflows.
Planned features include: eliminating journal entries that post to all divisions combined; division-filtered tax exports for all tax products; divisional spreadsheet import by column, allowing you to import all division balances at once when each division is in a separate column; and a Setup/Divisions spreadsheet import to quickly import your complete division list.
