Add Custom Excel workpapers linked to trial balance

  • A user account that has been granted the
    Add Workpaper
    permission.
  • A client and an engagement in
    Engagement Manager
    .
  • An engagement that has:
    • a trial balance that uses account grouping codes or
    • specified tax vendor information.

To add a Custom
Excel
workpaper to an Engagement Template, add the workpaper to an existing engagement, then select
Existing Engagement
as the
Source
.
  1. In Engagement Manager, open the engagement, then select the
    Workpapers
    tab.
  2. Select the target folder where you want to add Custom
    Excel
    workpapers.
  3. Select
    Add
    , then
    Workpaper
    .
    tip
    Alternatively, right-click the target folder and select
    Add
    , then
    Workpaper
    from the context menu.
  4. Select
    Custom Excel
    from the Source dropdown list, then
    Next
    .
  5. Choose one of the following options from the
    Grouping Type
    dropdown list:
    • Account Grouping
    • Tax Code
  6. Select
    Next
    .
  7. If you selected the Account grouping type, specify the
    Account Grouping
    ,
    Format
    , and the codes you want to include.
  8. If you selected the Tax codes type, specify the
    Format
    and the codes you want to include.
  9. Select
    Next
    .
  10. Customize columns as needed.
    1. To edit the properties of a column, select the column, then use the Column properties fields. 
    2. To add a column, select
      Add
      , select the new column, then choose a
      Column type
      and properties.
    3. To arrange the columns you've added, select the column, then use
      Move up
      or
      Move down
      .
    4. To delete a column you've added, select the column, then
      Delete
      .
    note
    Tickmark and workpaper references columns are not available for Custom
    Excel
    workpapers. Add a
    User defined
    column if you need this information.
  11. Select
    Next
    .
  12. Use the
    Reference
    ,
    Description
    ,
    User Assignment
    ,
    Roll Forward
    , and
    During Finalize
    fields to choose the properties for your Custom
    Excel
    workpaper.
  13. Select
    Done
    .

  • When Engagement Manager recalculates the workpaper, it removes all text and formatting changes, unless:
    • you work in a User Defined column or,
    • you work in a column to the right of the last column that contains calculations and the cell contains data.
  • Engagement Manager doesn’t automatically update Custom
    Excel
    workpapers with the latest trial balance data.
    Engagement Manager
    shows a message to ask you recalculate the formulas if there are differences.
