Backing up and restoring FileCabinet CS SQL data locations
Due to the dynamic nature of SQL databases, regular backups may not include all FileCabinet CS data locations. Alternatively, you can use the database backup feature in FileCabinet CS to create files that are accessible to your firm's backup systems. Database backups include the Drawer data, such as the document names list, and the system settings for each data location. You can restore this information at any time.
Backing up SQL data locations
Use these steps to back up one or more database locations.
- Choose .
- ChooseDatabase Locationsfrom the drop-down list, and then select the database data locations that you want to back up.
- select theBackupbutton.
Scheduling a recurring backup
Use these steps to schedule recurring backups of your database locations.
- Choose .
- ChooseDatabase Locationsfrom the drop-down list, and then select the database data locations that you want to back up.
- Select theSchedule Recurring Backupbutton.
- In theScheduled Backupdialog, choose a time for the backups to occur, choose your database location, and designate a backup location.
- Enter a user name and password that you use to log in to Windows.
- SelectOK.

The number of backup files that you can retain is limited to ten for scheduled recurring backups. After ten backup files are created, FileCabinet CS overwrites backup files, beginning with the oldest file. File names for recurring backups are appended with "[SBx]", where x indicates the backup iteration number. (For example, [SB0].bak, [SB1].bak, [SB2].bak, and so forth.)
Restoring SQL data locations
Use these steps to restore database locations.
- Choose .
- ChooseDatabase Locationsfrom the drop-down list, and then select the database data locations that you want to restore.
- Select theRestorebutton.

- Depending on the size of the database, the backup and restore processes may take a significant amount of time.
- You can also back up or restore individual drawers.
- Because an SQL database can hold data for multiple programs in a single database file, you cannot restore individual drawers or documents from a backup of an SQL database file. To restore drawers and documents from an SQL backup, you must restore the entire database file.
