Creating an embedded object from a file
You can embed any file into FileCabinet CS that originated in an application that supports Active Document Interface, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. You can also embed PDF, MHT, and HTML files. When you store a file as an embedded object in FileCabinet CS, you can edit the file in the original application, or from within FileCabinet CS using many of the features of the object's source application.
If you embed a file from your local drive or network, changes you make to the embedded object do not affect the original file.

- In theCreate Object From Filedialog, select the drawer ID for the drawer (or choose<Select multiple drawers>) in which you will store the embedded object.
- Select theBrowsebutton and navigate to the file you will store in the drawer.noteIf you're running FileCabinet CS in the Virtual Office CS or SaaS environment, you can navigate to files on your local network.
- Highlight the desired file and selectOpen.tipHold down the SHIFT or CTRL key to select multiple files.
- Optional: Mark theDelete file(s) in their original location after embeddingcheckbox.noteIf you mark this option, the file that you are embedding in FileCabinet CS will be permanently deleted.
- The object name defaults to the name of the file. You can change the name of the object, if desired.
- Mark the checkboxes for the folder or folders in which you want to store the object.noteIf no folder is selected for storage of the object, it will be placed in a folder named{Not yet filed}and can be placed in a folder later.

If the file you choose is of a type that cannot be embedded, you will receive a message saying
The file is not supported by a Document Object server
.
