Use the
Create Object From File
dialog to incorporate files into folders in FileCabinet CS as embedded objects. You can embed any object created in an application that supports Active Document Interface. Examples of such applications are Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. You can also embed PDF, MSG (Microsoft Outlook messages), EML (Windows Live Mail messages), MHT, and HTML files.
To open this dialog, choose
Object
Create From File
.

Fields & buttons

Drawer ID
From the drop-down list, choose the drawer ID or drawer name for the drawer that contains the folders in which you will store the embedded object, or choose
<<select multiple drawers>>
to store the embedded object in multiple drawers.

To view drawers by name instead of ID, choose
Setup
User Preferences
Drawer List
tab, and mark the
Present drawers sorted by name
checkbox.
File
Either enter the full path and file name in this field, or select the
Browse
button, navigate to the desired file, select the file, and select the
Open
button. The file name then appears in this field.

If you're running FileCabinet CS in the Virtual Office CS or SaaS environment, you can navigate to files on your local network.
Browse button
Use this button to open a dialog in which you can navigate to the desired file. Select the file and select the
Open
button to return to the
Create Object From File
dialog.

  • You can select more than one object by holding down either the SHIFT or CTRL key while clicking the files you want to store.
  • If you're running FileCabinet CS in the Virtual Office CS or SaaS environment, you can navigate to files on your local network.
Object name
Use this field to enter a name for the embedded object. This field contains the name of the file selected above by default.
Undo button
Undo button shows left pointing arrow Use this button to revert to the name originally assigned to the current document, image, or object. This button is enabled only when you haxve entered a name other than the default name.
Add to list button
Add to list button shows yellow plus sign Use this button to save the current document, image, or object name to a custom list.
Document folders
Mark the checkbox next to each folder in which you want to store the embedded object for the selected drawer.

Folders used in the current drawer appear at the top of the folder list, followed by a separator line, and then followed by the list of remaining folders (those not in use in the current drawer).

You can also create embedded objects by dragging and dropping files into FileCabinet CS.
