Change a client's entity type
- Open the client.
- SelectFile, thenSave Asto create a new client with entity type you want.noteThe original client is still available for final processing and making the final return.
- In theSave Aswindow, enter a unique client ID.noteIf you've set up Fixed Assets CS to archive data to FileCabinet CS and you've chosen to enter a comment for each backup, the Backup Client window will open.
- With the new client open, selectFile, thenClient Properties.
- Select the clientEntitytype andName.
- SelectOK.TheAsset Listwindow opens.
- If, in the original client, assets were assigned to an activity that's not proper for the new entity type, Fixed Assets CS assigns the assets to a similar activity for the new entity type. For example, if the original client was an individual entity with assets in the Business Schedule C, Part 2 folder, when you change the entity type to 1120C, the assets are placed in the Business Form 1120, Page 1 activity.
- If Fixed Assets CS is unable to determine the activity to which assets should be assigned, the assets are placed in theMiscactivity and you can move the assets to the correct activity.
- For information on reassigning assets to a different activity, refer to the Reassigning assets to a different activity or association article.
- If the original or new client has a short year because of the change in entity and you need information on changing processing periods for the short year, refer to the Entering a short year for the current client article.
