Restore dialog

Use the Restore dialog to restore client data, custom methods, custom reports, or system settings (asset labels, data locations, import maps, or status system events) from removable media or from a backup location.
To open this dialog, choose File and then Restore.

If
Clients
is selected in the
Clients
,
Custom Methods
,
Custom Reports
, or
System Settings
field at the top of this dialog, the open client (if any) automatically appears in the Selected pane if back up data exists in the Backup location. If you do not want to restore data for the active client, double-click it to remove it from that pane.

Fields & buttons

Data location
Use this drop-down list to select the data location to which you want to restore the clients or items. You must add a data location in the Setup, System Configuration, and then Data Locations tab before you can select it here.

This field is read-only if you have not set up additional data locations.
Clients, Custom Methods, Custom Reports, or System Settings
Select the item you want to restore.
  • Select
    Clients
    to restore client data.
  • Select
    Custom Methods
    to restore custom methods. If you select Custom Methods, all fields in the Focus client listing group box are not available.
  • Select
    Custom Reports
    to restore custom reports. If you select Custom Reports, all fields in the Focus client listing group box are not available.
  • Select
    System Settings
    to restore custom asset labels, data locations, import maps, or status system events. If you select System Settings, all fields in the Focus client listing group box are not available.
Available pane
Lists all items that meet the criteria designated in the Focus client listing group box. Highlight the clients or items you want to restore and select the Select button to move the items to the Selected pane.

  • Any clients or items already listed in the Selected pane are not listed here.
  • You can sort this list by selecting the Client ID, Name, or Entity column heading at the top of this pane. Double-click a client to select it for this restore procedure.
Selected pane
Lists the items you have selected for restoring.
note
  • To remove an item from this list, highlight the item and select the Remove button. The item returns to the Available pane.
  • To sort the client list by client ID, name, or entity type, select the words Client ID, Name, or Entity in the title bar of the list pane.
Focus client listing group box
Clients with backups in FileCabinet CS
Mark this checkbox to restrict the list of available clients to only those clients whose data has been backed up to FileCabinet CS.

This checkbox is available only if you are licensed for FileCabinet CS.
FileCabinet CS
Choose the location to which you back up client data in FileCabinet CS.
note
This field is available only if you are licensed for FileCabinet CS and set up multiple data locations in FileCabinet CS.
1040 / 1120 / 1065 / 1041 / Other
If you want, you can limit the clients that are available for selection in this dialog. Clear the checkbox for each type of client that you do not want to include in the list.
Restore user/default focus options button
Select this button to switch between the most recent custom focus selection and the default selection for the current dialog.
Backup data group box
Backup location
Displays the drive and folder from which the data will be restored. To change the backup location, select the Change Backup Location button.
Change Backup Location button
Select this button to change the drive or path of the archived data.
Refresh button
If you are restoring data from multiple CDs, select this button after you insert each new CD so the application checks for clients to restore.
