Error: Microsoft Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action

Scenario

You may see the following error when you view or edit GoFileRoom documents.
Error message
Microsoft Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action.

Cause

The likely cause is a third-party add-in that keeps Excel running in the background whether GoFileRoom is active in that application or not.

Solution

Use one of these two ways to find out which third-party add-in is causing the error, then contact the seller of the add-in for advice.

Find add-ins that cause errors in GoFileRoom

  1. In GoFileRoom, open an Excel document in view mode.
  2. Open Windows Task Manager and go to the
    Applications
     tab. Check that Excel is running.
  3. Go back to GoFileRoom and edit an Excel doc. You will get an error.
  4. Do the following to disable a third-party Excel add-in:
    1. In Excel, select
      File
       then
      Options
      .
    2. Select
      COM add-ins
       from the
      Manage
       dropdown.
    3. Clear the checkbox next to one of the add-ins then select
      OK
      .
  5. Repeat steps 1-3.
  6. If you still get the error, keep disabling third-party add-ins in Excel until you find which one causes the error.

Find add-ins that cause errors outside GoFileRoom

  1. In Windows Explorer, right-click a local Excel file and select
    Open with
     then choose a supported internet browser from the menu.
  2. Close the Excel document.
  3. Open Windows Task Manager and go to the
    Processes
     tab. Check that
    Excel.exe
     is open.
  4. Do the following to a disable third-party Excel add-ins:
    1. In Excel, select
      File
       then
      Options
      .
    2. Select
      COM add-ins
       from the
      Manage
       dropdown.
    3. Clear the checkbox next to one of the add-ins then select
      OK
      .
  5. Repeat steps 1-3.
  6. If you still get the error, keep disabling third-party add-ins in Excel until you find which one causes the error.
