Error: Unexpected error initializing the plugin

Scenario

You may see the following error message when editing a PDF file.
Error message
Unexpected error initializing the plugin,
or
Could not create directory: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\GoFileRoom\GFRAcrobat

Solution

Follow these steps if you
can
 open Adobe Acrobat:
  1. In Acrobat, select
    Edit
    , then
    Preferences
    .
  2. In the
    Security (Enhanced)
     category, clear the
    Enable Protected Mode at startup (Preview)
     checkbox.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall the GoFileRoom Client Add-in.
  4. In Acrobat, select
    Help
    , then
    Repair Installation
     and run the repair option.
Follow these steps if you
can't
 open Adobe Acrobat:
  1. Uninstall the GoFileRoom Client Add-in.
  2. In Acrobat, select
    Edit
    , then
    Preferences
    .
  3. In the
    Security (Enhanced)
     category, clear the
    Enable Protected Mode at startup (Preview)
     checkbox.
  4. Reinstall the GoFileRoom Client Add-in.
  5. In Acrobat, select
    Help
    , then
    Repair Installation
     and run the repair option.
