Simplify your staff’s experience: Deactivate Classic Search

We are very excited to announce a multi-year initiative to modernize the user interface (UI) of GoFileRoom. Thomson Reuters design teams are in the process of reviewing customer feedback, engaging our customers, and bringing powerful new efficiencies to you. More details will be shared to help you prepare your staff for a revolutionized new look and feel.
As a step toward this modernization, the August 25, 2025 release introduces the ability to deactivate the legacy Classic Search screen. Many firms asked for this option to simplify the UI for new staff and standardize how teams use GoFileRoom. Opting to remove Classic Search now can smooth your transition to the new UI and reduce retraining later, as Classic Search will be decommissioned in a future release.
  • Should I consult with my firm’s leadership before requesting this change?
Yes. This is a global setting that affects all users in your firm. Align internally to avoid confusion and ensure a coordinated rollout.
  • Does this change impact a single user or our entire firm?
It impacts your entire firm. Deactivating Classic Search is an organization‑wide setting.
  • Can the change be reversed if we want to revert to later reactivate Classic Search?
Yes. Support can re‑enable Classic Search at your request. Note: Classic Search will be permanently decommissioned in a future release, at which point re‑enabling it will no longer be possible. We will provide advance notice before that change.
  • What is the recommended timing to opt out of Classic Search?
We recommend aligning with your internal change windows (for example, after busy season or a weekend) and allowing time to notify staff and update any internal guides.
  • Will I lose any data or search configurations when we deactivate Classic Search?
No. Deactivating Classic Search does not delete documents, metadata, permissions, or saved searches. Your data and security settings remain intact.
  • Are all existing features available without Classic Search?
Core search capabilities remain available. Some legacy-only workflows may have different entry points or behavior. Review our feature parity notes in the Help (NEW LINK) and contact Support if you rely on a specific Classic-only action.
  • How will this affect saved searches, filters, and user preferences?
Saved searches and filters remain available. In some cases, labels or layout may differ in the modern UI. We recommend power users validate critical saved searches after the change.
  • Does this impact user roles or permissions?
No. User roles and permissions are unchanged. Access control is enforced the same way in the modern experience.
  • How much advance notice will you provide before Classic Search is fully decommissioned?
We will provide advance notice and timelines through in‑product messages, release notes, and email to firm admins. Expect multiple reminders prior to decommissioning.
  • Is there an additional cost to disable Classic Search or move to the modern UI?
No. This change is included as part of your GoFileRoom subscription.
  • How do we request the change?
Call GoFileRoom Support at 800‑968‑0600. Be ready to confirm your firm name, admin contact, and preferred timing.
  • How long does it take after we request opt‑out?
Most requests are completed within the same day. Your support representative can provide an estimated window and coordinate timing if you prefer an off‑hours change.
  • What if we experience issues after disabling Classic Search?
Contact Support immediately. We can assist with troubleshooting, provide guidance on the modern UI workflows, and temporarily re‑enable Classic Search if needed (until its final decommission).
