Maintain your scanner's performance
To maintain your scanner's performance, follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. The following are general guidelines.

- Check your scanner's duty cycle, which is how many pages a day the manufacturer recommends your scanner scan.
- The manufacturer's guide also includes recommendations for when to replace worn parts.
Parts of your scanner to clean
- Separation pad:If it's worn or dirty, the pad pulls mutiple sheets of paper from the stack, instead of 1 at a time.
- Pick roller:If it's worn or dirty, the roller won't pull paper from the stack and feed it across the separation pad.
- Feed rollers:These can cause crooked scans and marks on documents.
- Glass plates:If it's worn or dity, marks appear on scanned images.
Don't use
- Don't spray cleaning products directly onto the scanner.
- Don't use paper towels because they can leave dust on the glass.
- Don't use pre-moistened wipes on feed rollers.
- Don't use general glass cleaning products.
- Don't use clothes dryer anti-static sheets as they could scratch the glass.
- Don't use compressed air because it can force dust under the glass, which will need removal by a professional cleaner.
Steps to clean your scanner
- Unplug the scanner.
- Spray a specialist glass cleaner onto a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Raise or remove the lid of the scanner.
- Wipe the upper and lower glass plates until visible dust specks and grease are removed.
- Immediately wipe the screen dry with a dry cloth.
- Clean the chassis with any product suitable for cleaning plastic.If the underside of the glass is dirty, have it professionally cleaned.
