Error: The field ‘PartnershipEIN’ with value ‘[EIN]’, data format is not correct

You get this error when the partnership EIN in a K-1 aggregation file contains a hyphen or other characters instead of 9 consecutive digits.

Error message

Validation failed on [FILE_ID]: Form: SchK2K3HighTxdIncmSch1And2Stmt[2][@documentId= [DOCUMENT ID] PartnershipEIN[1] Description: Partnership EIN Requirement: Type for Employer Identification No. - 9 digits Error: The field 'PartnershipEIN' with value '[EIN]', data format is not correct. Element Name: PartnershipEIN XPath: //SchK2K3HighTxdIncmSch1And2Stmt[@documentId=[DOCUMENT ID]]/PartnershipEIN[1] XML Fragment: [EIN] Field Key: 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 Error Code: [CODE] Error Reason: '[EIN]' violates pattern constraint of '[0-9]{9}'. The element '{http://www.irs.gov/efile}PartnershipEIN' with value '[EIN]' failed to parse.

Solution

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    Federal E-file
    Attachments
    K-1 aggregation
    K-1 Aggregation
    .
  2. Remove the attached aggregation file.
  3. Open the XML aggregation file.
  4. Locate the PartnershipEIN element and remove the hyphen and any other special characters.
  5. Keep only the 9 digits (for example, change 'XX-XXXXXXX' to 'XXXXXXXXX').
  6. Reattach the corrected aggregation file.
  7. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.
