X0000-005 e-file error

You get this error when the return contains an invalid XML element or value. The error message identifies the element with the issue.

Error message

The http://www.irs.gov/efile:PCTOwnership element is invalid - The value None is invalid according to its datatype http://www.irs.gov/efile:Dec999Type - The string None is not a valid Decimal value.

Solution

  1. Review the error message to identify the invalid XML element.
  2. Search the return XML file for the element name to locate the issue.
  3. For a
    PCTOwnership
    error, go to
    Organizer
    Partner Information
    Partner by Partner Data
    Columnar Partner Entry
    Ratios/Units
    and remove
    NONE
    from the beginning ratios. Enter a valid decimal percentage.
  4. For disallowed negative amounts, find the listed value and change it to
    NONE
    or paper-file the return.
  5. If the error identifies
    Partnership
    , go to
    Organizer
    General Information
    Basic Return Information
    Return Information
    . Under
    Signing Partner or LLC Member
    , enter the first name, last name, title, and date.
  6. Recreate and resubmit the return.
