F1042S-018 e-file error

This error occurs when the Form 1042-S recipient name doesn’t match the name on the return.

Error message

F1042S-018: On Form 1042-S the recipient name must match the name on the return. Go to Organizer / Income and Deductions / Sec I - Income Not Connected / Form 1042-S

Solution 1: Update recipient name through Income and Deductions

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    Income and Deductions
    Sec I - Income Not Connected
    Form 1042-S
    [Name]
    .
  2. Select
    Enter recipient copy of F1042S from Organizer
    .
  3. In the F1042S column, drill down and go to line
    13a Recipient's name
    .
  4. Verify the name matches the entity name at
    Organizer
    General Information
    Basic Return Information
    Entity Information
    [Name]
    .
  5. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.

Solution 2: Update recipient name through Informational Forms

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    Informational Forms
    Withholding for Foreign Persons
    1042-S (Copy B) and 1099s (Copy B)
    .
  2. Drill down on F1042S. On the new page, go to line 13a.
  3. Verify the recipient's name (personal or business) matches the entity name.
  4. The name must match the entity name at
    Organizer
    General Information
    Basic Return Information
    Entity Information
    .
  5. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.
note
The names must match exactly, including capitalization. If the entity name is too long to fit on line 13a, shorten the entity name at
