Error: Field 'CABusinessIdNumber' cannot be empty

This e-file validation error occurs when the California Corporation Number is missing or invalid for the Filer, ParentCorp, or SubsidiaryCorp on a California 1120 return.

Solution

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    California
    General Information
    General Information
    .
  2. Make sure the
    Corporation Number
    line contains a valid 7- or 12-digit number (7-digit number must start with 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, or 9), or select
    Reason the corporation number is not applicable
    .
  3. Right-click and select
    Sub View
    to check if lower members have the Corporation Number, if working with Consolidated returns.
  4. If the corporation number is unknown, contact the California E-Help Desk at (916) 845-0353 to obtain it.
  5. Do a full recompute and recreate the e-file.
  6. If all requirements can't be met, consider paper filing.
