Error: State requires federal return copy in XML

You'll get this diagnostic if the federal return copy in XML is missing from the electronic file.

Error Message

Federal Efile Validation Errors: New Jersey State requires Federal Return copy in XML along with New Jersey electronic file. Clear all Federal validation errors or rejects. Recreate the State Electronic File for this diagnostic to get cleared.

Solution

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    State E-file
    Enable/Create Returns
    Federal Copy tab
    .
  2. Go to the line for New Jersey.
  3. Change Column B for
    Federal Copy
     to
    Attach a federal XML created in a different locator/binder
    .
  4. Complete the following with the information from the locator used to e-file the federal return:
    • Column G:
      Federal EIN
    • Column H:
      Locator Number
    • Column I:
      Account Number
