Error: The field 'StateAbbreviationCd' data format is not correct

This error occurs on IRS Form 709 when a donee's address contains an invalid state abbreviation code, typically because a foreign address is using U.S. address fields.

Solution

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    List of Gift Recipients
    .
  2. Review the donee address for the recipient identified in the error. For all recipients with a foreign address, enter only the following fields:
    1. Address
    2. City
    3. Foreign Country
    4. Foreign Province
    5. Foreign Post Code
      .
  3. Make sure all other domestic address fields are empty (including
    State
    and
    ZIP Code
    ).
  4. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.
